In a sport loved by billions and played in every corner of the world, it takes a special kind of leadership to unify vision, legacy, and ambition. Gurumurthy Palani’s that rare figure — a trailblazer whose journey from the pitches of Bahrain to the Chief Executives Committee of the International Cricket Council (ICC) reflects both deep-rooted passion and transformative leadership. Now representing France on the CEC, Palani’s elevation is more than just a personal milestone — it’s a proud moment for Bahrain Cricket, European Cricket, and all associate member nations striving to redefine their place in global cricket.
Bahrain: Where the Spark Was Lit
For two unforgettable years, Palani served as the Chief Development Officer for Bahrain Cricket, shaping a golden era in the kingdom’s cricketing landscape. Under his guidance, Bahrain’s women’s team not only made headlines but broke global T20I records — a testament to the belief that opportunity and vision can change the game.

At a recent celebration hosted at the Ramee Grand Hotel Bahrain, Mr. Mohammad Mansoor, Chairman of Saara Group and the Chairman of Bahrain Cricket Federation, presented Palani with a special memento. It was more than an award — it was a moment that celebrated legacy, impact, and the bonds formed through sport.
“Gurumurthy’s passion and his ability to turn vision into action have been nothing short
of inspiring,” said Mr. Mansoor, who has been a steadfast supporter of Bahrain Cricket’s
rise.
A Voice for the Unheard: Reforming the ICC from Within
Now seated at the table where the future of cricket is written, Palani is championing
inclusivity, transparency, and equal representation for associate member nations.
His vision? A bottom-up model, where every nation has a say before decisions are made
— not after.
“Associate members deserve to be architects, not just attendees. It’s time they help
shape cricket’s destiny,” Palani told Life N Style in an exclusive interview.

With support from visionary leaders like Mr. Jay Shah, Chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC) and other esteemed members of the International Cricket Council (ICC) whom Palani credits for his transformative, goal-oriented leadership, he is set to make the ICC a more inclusive and strategically agile institution.
Empowering Women. Energizing the Game.
Palani’s work in women’s cricket is especially close to his heart. He saw first-hand how passion, when matched with infrastructure and belief, could take Bahrain’s women to global heights. Now, he’s pushing for greater inclusion of associate women’s teams in ODI and T20I pathways, unlocking global recognition and opportunity.

“We don’t need to wait decades to compete — we need to invest now. In 3–5 years, associate women’s teams can rival full-member nations,” he stated.
Tech, Talent & Tomorrow: Palani’s Global Agenda
His roadmap includes a complete reform of ICC’s funding model, stronger youth pathways, investment in coaching and umpiring, and leveraging AI to elevate fan engagement, player analytics, and talent discovery. As he said: “The future of cricket lies in data-backed development, but rooted in heart and heritage.”

Alongside Fabio Marabini of Italy, who was named Vice President, three additional Vice Presidents were elected: Indika Perera (Malta), Sarah Gomersal (Jersey), and Gurumurthy Palani (France). Rounding out the Executive Committee is Bilal Zal Never (Austria).
He also brings to the table years of experience from European Cricket Association, where he serves as Vice President and Co-Founder, chairing its first-ever strategic meeting in 2024. This gives him a deep understanding of regional aspirations and how they connect to cricket’s global growth.

Mr. Gurumurthy Palani was honoured with the prestigious Times of Bahrain TOB Icon Award 2024, held under the esteemed patronage of His Excellency Salman Al Musallam, Speaker of the Council of Representatives.
Brotherhood in Cricket
Throughout his journey, Palani has remained grounded, often crediting the friendships and partnerships that have fueled his vision — from Bahrain to France to Dubai. His bond with Mr. Mohammad Mansoor is a perfect reflection of that brotherhood — a shared belief that cricket can be more than a game: it can be a movement.
“Mr. Mansoor’s relentless commitment to Bahrain Cricket has laid the foundation for what’s to come. I look forward to building this vision together, globally,” Palani expressed.
More Than a Game
For Gurumurthy Palani, cricket isn’t just a sport — it’s a mission, a culture, and a way to uplift communities and nations. As he steps into one of cricket’s most influential roles, the message is clear:
