New York’s legendary Grand Ballroom will exchange its dance floor for a full-sized tennis court in an extraordinary meeting of sport, style and hospitality.
Luxury is no longer limited to what guests wear, own or collect. Increasingly, it is defined by access to experiences that could never be repeated anywhere else.

On 27 August 2026, the legendary Grand Ballroom at Waldorf Astoria New York will transform into a full-sized tennis court for the inaugural Waldorf Astoria Racquet Club: Ballroom Tennis Invitational. Beneath its chandeliers, leading ATP and WTA players Tommy Paul, Ben Shelton, Leylah Fernandez and Maria Sakkari are scheduled to compete in a series of showcase matches.
The evening will combine world-class tennis with Champagne, culinary theatre and the hotel’s signature hospitality. Guests can expect interactive dining experiences from Lex Yard, tennis-inspired cocktails, player encounters and wellness offerings from Guerlain Wellness Spa.
More than a sporting event, the invitational marks the launch of Waldorf Astoria Racquet Club, a new global platform bringing tennis and padel into the worlds of luxury travel, culture and social connection. The initiative builds upon existing racquet experiences across the brand’s destinations, including Waldorf Astoria Maldives Ithaafushi, Rome Cavalieri and Waldorf Astoria Dubai Palm Jumeirah.
In a ballroom that has hosted historic galas, award ceremonies and defining cultural moments, tennis is preparing to take centre stage—proving that modern luxury is not simply observed. It is experienced.
