Jerry Seinfeld Sells Iconic Porsche 917K for $25 Million
Jerry Seinfeld has sold his legendary Porsche 917K, the race car famously driven by Steve McQueen in the film Le Mans. The sale follows an earlier auction where Seinfeld turned down a $25 million offer at Mecum Auction in January. Seinfeld revealed the final sale on Spike’s Car Radio podcast, where he shared that the deal closed privately, with the car fetching a price in the $25 million range, making it the most expensive Porsche ever sold.

Seinfeld’s decision to choose Mecum Auction surprised car enthusiasts, as it’s more known for handling American muscle cars than European classics. However, the comedian explained that Mecum’s founder, Dana Mecum, convinced him that their marketing strategy would create significant buzz, benefiting both Seinfeld’s car and the auction house.

Although Seinfeld didn’t reveal the buyer’s identity, he mentioned that high-profile collectors often prefer private deals over public auction bids. “Some people don’t want to buy it in that frenzied moment of an auction,” Seinfeld explained.
Seinfeld acquired the 917K in 2001 from Frank Gallogly for an undisclosed sum, making a significant profit from the sale. The car’s final price eclipses the previous record set by another 917K, which sold for $14.08 million in 2017. This sale solidifies the 917K as one of the most coveted and valuable cars in automotive history.
