Paris 2024. The world held its breath as the spotlight shone on Paris for the opening ceremony of the 2024 Olympic Games. On July 26th, the City of Lights rewrote the script, transforming its iconic Seine River into a breath-taking stage. The vibrant parade of athletes, representing nations from across the globe, gliding down the Seine, the golden glow of the setting sun cast a warm light on the city’s architectural treasures – Notre Dame, the Louvre, the Eiffel Tower – all serving as a backdrop for this historic moment. The games showcased the prowess of some of the world’s most elite athletes set against the scenic backdrop of France’s beauty. Bahrain was done proud by our athletes – runner Winfred Yavi (gold medal in women’s 3,000m steeplechase), wrestler Ahmed Taj El-Din (gold medal, 97 kg), runner Salwa Eid Nasser (silver medal in the women’s 400m race), weightlifter Gor Minasyan (bronze in weightlifting over 102 kg) by winning a historic four medals.
A lot of blood, sweat and toil went into preparing for these games as was evident from what we witnessed on the ground but there was a lot of behind-the-scenes preparation that led up to the event that helped pull everything together. The French Embassy in partnership with the Bahrain Olympic Committee held series of events that built the momentum leading up to the events.
Life N Style caught up with the relatively new French Ambassador to Bahrain HE Eric Giraud-Telme to talk about the pre-Olympic preparation, his initial impression of the Kingdom and learn a little bit more about him.
