The Italian Embassy inaugurated the 24th edition of the Italian Language Week recently
To celebrate the richness of the Italian language, the Italian embassy in Bahrain inaugurated the 24th edition of the Italian Language Week. The event was in collaboration with the Royal University for Women (RUW), and the Centre for Italian Language and Culture “Grazia Deledda”.
For the advancement of Italian culture
The event seeks to honour the Italian language and help advance the Italian publishing industry. It also strives to bolster the Italian culture and heritage in Bahrain. The event was made possible thanks to the commitment of President Dr. Riyad Y. Hamzah, and Academic Vice President Dr. Jean Pierre El Asmar, and Mrs. Marilina Pellegrini, Italian lecturer at RUW and the Centre for Italian Language and Culture Grazia Deledda.
The event was themed on the idea of “Italian and the Book: The World Between Lines”. Italian ambassador, H.E. Andrea Catalano, emphasized the prestige of Italian literature and its influence on the world, as a representative of Italian culture and identity.
Mrs. Pellegrini’s first lecture was on the topic ‘The Role of Literature as a Vehicle of Italian Culture and Identity Heritage’. It was an excellent success with the participation of students. Her lecture stressed upon the Italian perspective on the role of women in history through the example of Grazia Deledda – a 20th century Nobel Prize winner.
Speaking on the occasion, Ambassador Catalano said, “Our literary heritage embodies a unique view of the world, one in which every word carries a story and every phrase resonates with cultural significance, transcending mere communication to become a powerful vehicle for emotions, thoughts and stories that connect us all across time and space, breaking down all cultural barriers and fostering deep and mutual understanding.”
