The yachting world will gather at one of the biggest boat festivals in Florida’s sunshine coast
The world’s largest in-water boating spectacle – the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show (FLIBS) – kicks off on October 30 at Florida’s east coast. Celebrating its 65th anniversary, the festival will be held across seven venues, exhibiting over 1,300 new boats. More than 20 yachts over 165 feet, along with hundreds of marine products and services will be on display. The event will see a footfall of around 100,000 visitors and 1,000 exhibitors.
Humble beginnings
Belonging to the Marine Industries Association of South Florida, the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show was founded in 1969 by local manufacturers and dealers as a means to sell boats. Beginning with just 13 boats in its first ever appearance, the event grew over the decades to become a cultural and historical icon. And The scale of the event has also evolved to monumental global proportions, witnessing exhibitors from 52 countries. Exhibits range from speedboats and super yachts to lifestyle accessories.
What to expect
FLIBS presents exclusive previews for vessel enthusiasts to check out the newest mean machines on water. Additionally, the event also offers a host of correlating goodies, such as fishing boats, cruisers, runabouts, marine accessories, fishing equipment, diving accessories, and personal watercraft.
Those interested in building knowledge and gaining expert tips can look forward to seminars from industry experts. A range of topics from conservation and sustainability to fishing techniques and best practices on water will provide valuable insights to amateurs and seasoned pros alike.
The event guarantees a fun day out for the whole family, with spaces for dining and refreshments, and a FLIBS Kids Corner. Little ones can experience Halloween and marine-themed arts and crafts, face-painting, balloon-making, and much more.
Best new yachts to watch out
Expect to see some smashing new vessels from top yacht brands. Ocean Alexander 28L Legend, Pearl 82, Pardo GT75 are some of the newsmakers to watch out for. International names to look forward to include Taiwan’s Jade Yachts, Polish Sialia Yachts, and Australian Riviera. The 221 ft Dutch-built mega yacht Loon will be one of the most popular highlights, allowing fans to get up close and personal.
