BMW is expanding its Neue Klasse generation with the new BMW iX4, a fully electric Sports Utility Vehicle in coupé form that brings a more expressive, performance-led character to the brand’s next era of mobility.
Set to launch in March 2027, the iX4 combines the technological direction of Neue Klasse with a distinctly emotional design. Its long wheelbase, short overhangs and sweeping roofline create a sleek coupé silhouette, giving the electric SUV a stronger sporting presence while retaining the clean, reduced aesthetic that defines BMW’s new design language.

At the front, familiar BMW signatures are reinterpreted for the electric age. The kidney grille and twin headlights merge into a single graphic composition, using geometry and light to create the unmistakable Neue Klasse face.
For Mike Reichelt, Head of Neue Klasse, BMW Compact and Midsize Class, the iX4 represents a more emotional expression of BMW’s evolving electric portfolio, bringing together sportiness, expressive styling and advanced technology in one distinctive package.
Two drive variants will be available at launch, followed shortly afterwards by the flagship BMW iX4 M60 xDrive.
The performance-focused M60 xDrive will use an electric motor on both the front and rear axles, producing up to 450 kW / 612 hp and 875 Nm of torque. It represents the most powerful interpretation of the iX4 range, pairing all-electric performance with the visual attitude associated with BMW M.
Its appearance reinforces that positioning. Elements of BMW’s new M design language give the front end a more aggressive identity, while M Yellow Lights, inspired by motorsport, add another distinctive visual signature.
What makes the iX4 particularly interesting is how BMW is approaching electrification beyond efficiency alone. Neue Klasse is being positioned not simply as a new generation of electric vehicles, but as an opportunity to rethink how BMW design, technology and driving character come together.
With the iX4, that philosophy takes on a more dramatic form.
It is lower, more expressive and deliberately sporting — an electric SUV designed to make its presence felt before it ever moves.
As BMW’s Neue Klasse family continues to grow, the iX4 suggests that the brand’s electric future will not be defined by restraint alone. Emotion, performance and unmistakable identity remain firmly part of the equation.
