Power, performance, and driver connection. ‘The Real Supercar’: is what McLaren calls it. It is, in every sense, and some more
Riding the wave of hypercar launches, McLaren has unveiled its latest powerhouse W1. It was launched on the 50th anniversary of McLaren’s first Formula 1 World Championship win. More than just a successor to the F1 and P1, this new speed monster is up and above even the marque’s Ultimate Series models Elva, Senna, and Speedtail. And here’s what makes it even more exclusive – this limited edition marvel has only 399 units up for grabs.
Mighty powerhouse

At 1,275 hp, the W1 has a 4.0L twin-turbocharged V-8 engine, augmented by a 1.4 kWh battery. It has an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission and an electronic differential. Belting out a torque of 988 ft lbs, the behemoth lurches from 0-100kmph in 2.7 seconds and can reach a top speed of 350kmph.
Speedy brute
Designed with a ground-effect aerodynamic body and a radically new Active Long Tail spoiler, the W1 charges effortlessly even around bends. A Race mode propels the W1 into hypersphere, lowering it by 1.5 inches and extending the spoiler further by 300mm. However, this Race mode is not road-legal, so it will activate the mode only when the GPS detects the car to be on a race track.
Touch of Style
A cockpit-style cabin with carbon-fibre seats, mesh-wrapped tail, and a fluid side profile add the style quotient to the dynamic performance. The doors have been elevated, literally, into gullwings – roof-hinged anhedral openings. When it comes to the driver seat, the steering wheels, pedals, and primary controls all move to adjust to the driver.

Along with the Race Mode, the driver can choose from two other settings: Comfort and Sport. The rear-view mirror is replaced by digital screen.
Power, performance, and driver connection – you have it all. ‘The Real Supercar’: is what McLaren calls it. It is, in every sense, and some more.
