Dubai Airports, operator of the world’s busiest international hub, has completed the installation of 520 Hearing Loops at DXB, marking the world’s largest deployment of this accessibility technology. This milestone underscores DXB’s mission to become the most inclusive airport in the world, providing seamless travel experiences for guests with hearing loss, hearing aids, or cochlear implants.
What Are Hearing Loops and Why They Matter
The Hearing Loop system works by transmitting sound directly to a user’s hearing aid or cochlear implant when the telecoil (T-setting) is activated. Unlike traditional audio support, no extra equipment or pairing is required. This ensures clear communication, minimal background noise, and instant connectivity, allowing travelers to navigate key airport processes with ease.
World’s Largest Hearing Loops Rollout at DXB
he loops have been integrated across all three terminals at check-in counters, immigration desks, boarding gates, and information desks. This strategic placement ensures travelers with hearing loss receive consistent accessibility support from kerb to gate.
Majed Al Joker, Chief Operating Officer at Dubai Airports, highlighted:
“The installation of over 520 Hearing Loops reflects our vision of accessible and inclusive travel. With the support of our oneDXB community, we are building a seamless airport experience for every guest.”
Collaboration with oneDXB Community
This achievement was delivered in collaboration with Emirates, flydubai, Dubai Police, GDRFA, Dubai Customs, dnata, Dubai Duty Free, Dubai Taxi Company, and Dubai Ambulance Services. The oneDXB community approach reflects a unified effort to improve airport accessibility standards across every touchpoint of the guest journey.
Aligned with Dubai’s Universal Design Code
The rollout aligns with Dubai’s Universal Design Code, ensuring inclusive access to transport and public spaces. To enhance the experience further, frontline employees at DXB underwent specialized accessibility training, equipping them to assist guests of determination with confidence and empathy.
Global Impact: Meeting a Growing Need
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), over 1.5 billion people worldwide live with some degree of hearing loss—a number expected to rise to 2.5 billion by 2050. By pioneering this large-scale deployment, Dubai Airports positions DXB as a global leader in inclusive travel, ensuring communication barriers are minimized in one of the world’s busiest aviation hubs.
