The newest luxury destination is out of this world – literally
A visit to space is no longer the domain of astronauts and scientists. Say hello to the swankiest trend for the uber luxe – a trip to outer space. Even though it is still in its nascent stage and lacks extensive research and development, space tourism is becoming a popular destination on the bucket lists of the world’s elites.
Pioneering Space Tourism
Virgin Group founder Richard Branson, was the first to sow the seeds of space tourism, when he envisioned a future and great potential in this untapped territory. His enterprise Virgin Galactic enabled the first space flight in 2018 with the launch of VSS Unity spaceship. Innovative businessman and investor Elon Musk jumped on the space tourism bandwagon and took it to greater heights. He created SpaceX, which ferried the world’s first space tourist – Dennis Tito.
While rockets and spaceships are still expensive, rapid technological advancements and growth in private sector investment are empowering the once-stuff-of-science fiction dream into a reality.

Branson, in collaboration with Space Perspective, is developing a radically different take on space journeys. Space Perspective’s ship – Neptune – is designed like a hot-air balloon, enhancing the space flight experience like never before. Claimed to be the first carbon-neutral human spaceflight experience, it is the largest spaceflight capsule.
A feat of engineering and innovation
Experience the world’s first space lounge, complete with Wi-Fi, world-class cuisine by Michelin-starred Danish chef Rasmus Munk, luxurious seating, a space spa, and other extravagant amenities. With the largest window expanse in any spaceship ever, expect to see panoramic views of the galaxies.

Branson will co-pilot the first crewed test flight sometime in 2025. Founders Jane Pointer and Taber MacCallum will give him company as the ship takes passengers up to the edge of space.
Lasting about six hours, the ride will cost about US$125,000 per person.
